Dr. Scott Mortensen was born and raised in Southeast Idaho where he helped take care of his family’s farm and ranch. He was very involved and excelled in South Fremont’s sporting programs all through high school, and played basketball for the Vikings while attending Rick’s College here in Rexburg. Dr. Mortensen served a 2-year LDS mission in the Los Angeles area in Southern California where he learned to speak Spanish fluently. Upon returning from California, Dr. Mortensen finished his Bachelor and Master degree in Zoology at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, UT in 1972.
Dr. Scott Mortensen received his optometric education from the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) In 1981. He received exceptional optometric training in diagnosing, treating and managing macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, keratoconus, strabismus, amblyopia ocular conditions and other diseases. Dr. Mortensen completed rotations at the following institutions:
Following these rotations, Dr. Mortensen received his Doctor of Optometry degree and returned to Southeast Idaho. He joined the Rexburg Vision Center in 1981 and bought sole possession ten years later in 1991. Dr. Mortensen is a member of the ACA and IOP, and served as President of the IOP during 1989. Dr. Mortensen is married to Camille (Heward) Mortensen and together they have raised 5 children and they now enjoy 12 grandchildren. He is an avid gardener and sports enthusiast, and makes sure to complete a sudoku puzzle daily.
